At Aviation Academy Scotland, we offer a flexible training structure, allowing students to progress at their own pace. While consistent training leads to better skill retention, we understand that life commitments may require you to take breaks. Here’s what you need to know about pausing and resuming your flight training.

1. Can I Take a Break from Training?

  • Yes! Our modular training approach allows students to pause and resume training as needed.

  • If you need to take a break, we recommend discussing your plans with an instructor to ensure a smooth return.

  • Keep in mind that extended gaps may require refresher training when you come back.

2. How Long Can I Take a Break For?

  • Short breaks (a few weeks) generally don’t require additional training.

  • If you take a break for several months, you may need refresher lessons to regain proficiency.

  • If your break exceeds 12 months, you may need to undergo a more structured revision program before continuing.

3. Do I Have to Complete My Training Within a Certain Timeframe?

  • While there is no strict time limit to complete a Private Pilot Licence (PPL), certain CAA requirements apply to logged flight hours and exams.

  • For commercial training, some elements (such as the ATPL theory exams) have validity periods, so it’s important to plan accordingly.

4. Will Taking a Break Affect My Progress?

  • Consistent training helps maintain skill retention and avoids the need for extra lessons to get back up to standard.

  • If you take an extended break, expect to spend some additional flight hours reviewing previously learned skills.

5. What If I Need to Pause for Financial or Personal Reasons?

  • Our Pay As You Train model means you are not locked into large upfront payments, so you can train at a pace that suits your budget.

  • If you need to take a break due to personal circumstances, just let us know so we can assist in planning your return.
