How much does flight training cost?

The cost of flight training varies depending on the type of licence you are pursuing, your training pace, and the aircraft you train on. At Aviation Academy Scotland, we offer a Pay As You Train model, meaning you only pay for what you use, rather than committing to large upfront payments.

Keeping it simple

For all your training at the Aviation Academy, we've kept it simple. There is a training rate for when you are under instruction, and a rate for when you are building hours and experience. And if you need to book in additional ground school we just charge per session.

Pay As You Train – No Large Upfront Payments

Unlike other flight schools that require full course payments upfront, Aviation Academy Scotland allows you to pay for training as you go. This provides:

  • Financial flexibility – no need to commit thousands upfront.

  • Transparency – pay for actual flying hours and training received.

  • Security – your money is not tied up in long-term contracts.

Additional Costs to Consider

Beyond flight hours, there are other costs to factor in:

  • Medical certificates – A CAA Class 2 (for PPL) or Class 1 (for commercial training) is required.

  • Theory courses and exams – ATPL theory is often a separate cost.

  • Equipment – Headsets, books, and navigation tools.

  • Landing fees and CAA licensing costs.

We've factored in most of these costs for you in our brochure.
